RNA-Seq

RNA-seq is the next-generation sequencing based technique that we use to analyse global gene expression. Depending on the purpose of the project, we have used RNA-seq to study differential gene expression, RNA editing, RNA splicing, or SNP identification.

Quality and quantity of the RNA sample is crucial for successful RNA sequencing, and we aim for the RIN (RNA Integrity Number) of > 8 for samples extracted from frozen tissue or fresh cardiomyocytes to ensure quality data output. Our lab has also developed protocols to perform sequencing with low input of RNA (~1ng).
